Bio
Sue Jo Wright is an Australian Deaf artist working across textiles, photography and moving image. Grounded in Auslan, her practice explores language through layered expressions of identity, belonging and Deaf culture.
Wright presented her first solo exhibition, Signs of Time, at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf (2024). Her work has been exhibited at Artspace Sydney, Firstdraft, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, the Australian Design Centre and Lismore Regional Gallery. She was recently a finalist in the 2026 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) and is a six-time finalist in the Fisher's Ghost Art Award.
Alongside her studio practice, Wright provides Deaf cultural consultancy across film, television and performing arts projects. She also co-hosts Gesture Tours, an artist-led experience that combines performance and movement, encouraging audiences to experience artworks beyond spoken language.
